WORLD CIVILIZATION: (.5 CREDIT)

The study of World Civilizations emphasizes the increasing interrelationships over time of the world's peoples. These interrelationships have developed in two major arenas. First, the relationships have developed among major regions of the world: East Asia, South Asia, Southwest Asia (Middle East), Africa, Europe, North America and Latin America . Second, they have developed within all aspects of human activity: political, economic, social, philosophical and religious, scientific and technological, and artistic.

 

US HISTORY: (1 CREDIT)

Understanding United States history is essential for the continuation of our democratic society. This course will help students make connections between their world and the rich heritage of United States history. The course is designed as a survey of American history with an emphasis on post-Reconstruction American (1876- Present), but will include a review of the earlier period.

 

U.S. GOVERNMENT & CITIZENSHIP (.5 CREDIT)

The goal of this course is to foster informed, responsible participation in public life. Knowing how to be a good citizen is essential to the preservation and improvement of United States democracy. Upon completion of this course the student will understand the major ideas, protections, privileges, structures, and economic systems that affect the life of a citizen in the United States political system.

 

FINANCIAL LITERACY (.5 CREDIT)

The General Financial Literacy Core is designed for junior and senior students and represents those standards of learning that are essential and necessary for all students. The implementation of the ideas, concepts, knowledge, and skills contained in the General Financial Literacy Core will enable students to implement those decision-making skills they must apply and use to become wise and knowledgeable consumers, savers, investors, users of credit, money managers, citizens, and members of a global workforce and society.

 

GEOGRAPHY: (.5 CREDIT)

This is a one-semester course. Students will examine various cultures; the places in which they live and the natural and historical forces that influenced their development. This course will include extensive use of maps, requiring students to develop map-reading skills. Geography is a one-semester class and meets the minimum state graduation requirements for geography.
