Much Ado About Nothing opens October 19 at Tuacahn

Arrgh, Matey! Thereís nothing really scary about Tuacahnís newest production but it is sure to be a hilarious Halloween treat for the whole family. Filled with pirates and Italian gypsies, you are sure to get a laugh out of William Shakespeareís Much Ado About Nothing, produced in the Hafen Theatre from October 19 through the 28th (No shows Sunday the 22nd and Wednesday the 25th.) Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at the Tuacahn High School front office at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts.

If you are worried about understanding the play, Tuacahn High has a great tradition of Shakespeare and classical acting training. There have been several acting coaches at the school that have been actors at the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Tuacahnís resident theatre teacher Andrew Hunsaker has been at the Festival for four summers and was most recently seen in Hamlet and Anthony and Cleopatra. ìItís been a pleasure to introduce Much Ado to the kids here, because they get Shakespeare. You wonít miss a word of it. You will be laughing one minute and crying the next.î

Senator Orrin Hatch was on campus for his debate last week when he surprised the cast by paying them a visit backstage and congratulating them on their win at the renowned Shakespeare competition. He wished the cast a successful run and told them that he loved a good Shakespeare play. Cast members in attendance invited him. ìI wanted to offer him free tickets but he looked pretty busy,î said cast member Matt Dumas as he slid into his seat for the debate.

If you have ever been on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland, you will notice many similarities between the famous ride and the set and costumes for this production. With the popularity of the recent hit movie which is also based on the ride, play directors (and Disney fanatics) Jan and Andy Hunsaker have built a set reminiscent of the ride itself complete with a giant Italian villa, courtyard and docked Pirate ship. Shakespeareís plays have been performed in every era since the 1500ís, Hunsaker replies, ìwe pictured a rag-tag bunch of pirates entertaining themselves at sea, started laughing immediately and thought, why not?î

Tickets for this raucous comedy are on sale now and are $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for students and children under 18. Call 652-3201 for more information.
