THEATRE FOUNDATIONS I: THEATRE FUNDAMENTALS - (0.5 Credit)


An introduction to the fundamentals of drama including history, methods of personality, versatility, power, confidence, freedom of movement, voice, film acting, instinctive ensemble, focus on partner/environment, specificity, and script analysis. Basic concepts are presented through the use of exercises and improvisation. Students will develop drama skills through intense in-class instruction and participation as well as performance opportunities. This class is a prerequisite for Acting II and III. Teacher approval may also release a student from this requirement. Meets the state requirement for Arts credit.

THEATRE II: ACTING CRAFT/SCENE STUDY - (1 Credit)


Students will focus on developing the fundamental skills used in rehearsing and performing modern realistic plays. Through an exploration of various acting techniques, students acquire the tools and skills necessary for honest characterization. In year one the standards include: The Actor’s Voice, The Physical Actor, Audition Prep (including resumes and portfolios), Dramatic Structure (including playwriting) and Theatre History.

Prerequisite: Theatre Foundations I or teacher signature.

THEATRE FOUNDATIONS III/IV: PLAY PRODUCTION - (I Credit)


Year Two adds Improvisation Skills, Acting History, Shakespeare Team, Classical Voice for the Stage, Physicality, and Character Development through play production. Participation in the Region Drama Festival is mandatory. The advanced actor will prepare for college entrance auditions through compiling an official resume and audition portfolio. (This course may be repeated for credit.)

Prerequisite: Theatre Foundation II. This class is for Juniors and Seniors only.
